Do you have an outdoor event planned? Are you contemplating renting a generator? Wait a moment! Consider this...

A family friend had an outdoor wedding recently. The setting in a park was beautiful. However, they needed electricity for their background music, for an audio system with microphones, for video recording, and other purposes. So .. they rented a generator. After their honeymoon, they returned home to view their wedding video .. only to discover the constant drone of the generator made the recording of their ceremony very difficult to hear. Worse yet, the nervous bride couldn't be heard whispering her "I do" over the generator noise. They were heartbroken. That's a special moment in their lives they can never get back!

What is Included in Our Service?

Pre-event Power Assessment
Power assessment and planning in advance of your event date for your and all of your vendor's equipment. We want to make sure our equipment is suitable for your event.

Site Survey (optional)
A visual survey, where we will go to your planned location on a day prior to your event and assess the "lay of the land" (so to speak) to help reduce the chance of any unpleasant surprises. Surveys, if conducted, are generally done at our discretion, but we'll arrange to meet with you at your event site if you have any concerns you feel should be brought to our attention ahead of time. A requested survey may or may not incur a nominal fee for our time, but we'll try our best to do it one time at no cost to you if possible. If there is a charge, this will be told to you for your approval prior to any work being done.

Equipment Delivery
Delivery of the Solar ShuttleTM and other equipment you've rented from us to your site.

Early Arrival
Since power is often one of the first requirements at an event, we are accustomed to arriving earlier than most of your other vendors and suppliers. We've provided power for marathon races that started at 7:00 am, for which we were asked to arrive at 4:00 am to provide power for lights and registration computers. (Got coffee??).

Set-up
We do all of the set-up work, including deployment of the solar panels if it's a daytime event.

Safety
Protection of the Solar ShuttleTM and solar panels (as needed) with orange warning cones and "caution" tape to help safeguard your guests.

On-Site Equipment Supervision
An experienced member of our staff will remain on-site behind the scenes for the entire duration, monitoring our equipment, to help ensure the success of your event.

Late Departure
Power is often the last service at any event to be discontinued. Lights are often needed to help dismantle an event that ends well after sundown. Power is needed for those lights. We take this into account ahead of time, and allow up to one hour after the end of your event for additional "after-hours" power needs. Even if your event ends during the day, there are frequently items such as tents, tables, booths, and sound stages that must be dismantled or taken out before we can move the Solar ShuttleTM. We're accustomed to being among the last (if not THE last) to leave at the end of an event.

Return
When your event is done, we will pack our systems and take them away. There's nothing for you to do! Focus instead on enjoying your event!

Can the Solar ShuttleTM replace any generator?
The short answer is "No". The Solar ShuttleTM has limits, just as any generator does. Fuel-based generators have a maximum rated output wattage. So does the Solar ShuttleTM.

Mechanical generators don't work well or last very long if constantly run near their maximum ratings. This would be like driving your car with your foot to the floor on the gas pedal for hours at a time (if you could do it). It's not good for batteries or inverters either. (Inverters are electronic devices that change battery direct current into household alternating current.) Along with some very large batteries, there are two "main" inverters and two auxiliary inverters in the Solar ShuttleTM. They work much better if not pushed to their absolute maximum limits.

To help prevent surprises, we will work closely with you and with your vendors in advance of your activity date to assess your event's power requirements and make sure our equipment is appropriate for your needs. (Try getting THAT kind of service from a generator rental company!).

Generators require fuel, and they quit when the fuel runs out. Batteries store energy just like fuel in a tank. If the batteries go dead, the electricity stops. Unlike a mechanical generator that requires regular refueling (for which you must turn it off and sometimes allow it to cool if you're to do it safely), the Solar ShuttleTM charges its batteries with electricity from solar panels. However, this energy isn't unlimited. At night, the Solar ShuttleTM provides power exclusively from the solar energy stored in the batteries. During the day, the solar panels replenish some-to-all of this energy, meaning daytime events have more energy available. That calls attention to a solar-only issue: the Solar ShuttleTM daytime power capability can be somewhat affected by weather (clouds reduce the energy output from the solar panels). So in some ways, the Solar ShuttleTM has a few of the limitations of mechanical fuel-based generators - but it also has some HUGE advantages over them!

What the Solar ShuttleTM DOES do - it does well - and much better than any fuel-type generator of similar ratings. For instance, gas and diesel generators can't react to rapidly varying power consumption such as from amplifiers used by bands on a sound stage. This leads to distortion in the sound, voltage surges, and other problems. Here, the Solar ShuttleTM has no equal. It doesn't suffer the limitations of a mechanical generator in these situations. The clarity and quality of the sound from amplifier equipment powered by the Solar ShuttleTM constantly receives rave reviews from professional sound engineers and performers alike. Our equipment has powered Grammy-award winning bands over the years. All of them have commented on the high quality of the audio from their equipment when it's powered by electricity from the Solar ShuttleTM. Audio and video recordings are crystal clear - free of background noise, electrical glitches, and other issues that plague mechanical generators.

Electricity from the Solar ShuttleTM is absolutely "clean" (free from spikes, surges, and dips). Generators suffer from all of these .. and more. Power from some generators is so bad it can be damaging to sensitive electronics, especially some of the modern amplifiers, public address systems, audio and video recorders, and more. The Solar ShuttleTM power is so pure and stable, the identical model inverters that are installed in the Solar ShuttleTM are used by research laboratories as a power source for THEIR sensitive electronics. Also .. unlike generators that are plagued by "ground loops" (causes hum and other problems in amplified audio), this too is not a problem with power from the Solar ShuttleTM.

The Solar ShuttleTM is totally silent. In a serene park setting, during a congratulatory toast for a graduate .. to the promise of bride and groom as they say "I do" to each other .. you can hear birds singing and the rustling of leaves. Ceremony participants are equally easy to hear. You can't put a mechanical generator far enough away to eliminate the noise. And just like smoke from a campfire, have you ever noticed the exhaust fumes always seem to drift in the direction of your guests? Not fun!

If you've ever rented a generator for an event, then you already know from past experience the trouble it involves. You first must find a generator suitable for your power requirements; go to the rental company; pick it up (careful! generators are heavy!); get gasoline; then take everything to your event and hook it all up. Next, you HOPE the generator starts and stays running. Finally, after your event is over (and you're exhausted), you still have to clean up, put the generator into a vehicle (generators seem even heavier when you're tired!), then drive it back to the rental company (usually the next day). Finally, you either refill the generator's gas tank before you give it back to the rental company, or they do it for you - charging you a fortune for the gas in the process. There's a huge "hassle factor" associated with renting and using a generator.

The Solar ShuttleTM eliminates all of those "hassle factors". Completely.

What's THAT worth to you?
